Re-Dial Association for the Study of Religion

The Re-Dial Association for the Study of Religion a non-profit public utility NGO formed by young scholars and graduated students of study of religion, ethnology or sociology. We are based at Szeged, Hungary, having close contact to the University of Szeged Department of Religious Studies.

The Association provides research, survey and network possibilities for the members. The association has several running projects.

The members of the Re-Dial Association for the Study of Religions are university professors, PhD students, young researchers and talented students. The basic aim of the association has been the establishment of an independent and objective NGO, which supports and makes possible the research and debate of social issues – esp. in the field of religions. Furthermore, it aims to create an open forum for discussion on the changes in the religious field of Europe. Our association, in cooperation with the department for The Scientific Study of Religions at the University of Szeged, has taken part in several international research programmes, has conducted conferences in the issue of intercultural dialogue, tolerance and mutual understanding, and other cultural events. Experiences and activities of our association:

Garden of World Religions – cultural festival and workshop in Szeged (2004, 2005) – The Association organised a 5-day long cultural festival with participation of 15 different religious communities – i.e. Hindus, Jews, Muslims, Bahai’s, Several Christian denominations and New Religious Movements. It provided an opportunity for enquirers to get in touch with the representatives of religious communities, to learn about the religious traditions and values.

Educational lectures at the University of Szeged and in local high – The aim of the lectures was to draw the attention of the students on the values of different religious traditions, to present the role of religious communities in present societies; in this way strengthening the tolerance towards cultural and religious differences among them.

Religion and Sciences (symposium, 2006) – Professionals from different scientific fields and representatives of religious communities- a physician, a biologist, a historian, a sociologist, a philosopher, a theologian, a rabbi, and a Hindu monk – took part in the symposium in the Study and Information Centre of Szeged. Its goal was to conduce to the dialogue between religions and sciences, and to present the reconciliation of different aspects and views.

Religiousness In A Changing World – Erasmus Summer IP 2006 – The IP was an international seminar for advanced graduate, post-graduate students and young scholars. The main objectives of the IP was to discover the changes in the religious situation in Central-East and South-East Europe in contemporary European situation, the critical interchange and discussion of ideas, and the formulation of constructive hypotheses to debate the understanding of the socio-religious changes.
